Pierre-Georges Latécoère, a French entrepreneur, distinguished himself at the dawn of commercial aviation between the two wars, mainly in airmail. It was one of his planes that allowed Jean Mermoz to make the transatlantic crossing from Dakar to Natal in Brazil in 1930. Passionate about large-tonnage seaplanes, his Latécoère 631 operated the Biscarosse-Fort de France route.
