Self-adhesive stamps; How to detach them from the envelope?

Self-adhesive stamps

The postal administrations of the equatorial and tropical countries (Sierra Leone) were the first to test the self-adhesive stamps, indeed in these countries the traditional gum was difficult to preserve dry. It is Canada which adopted in a general way by 1988 the stamps self-adhesive, followed closely by the United States and Japan in 1989. In France, the first self-adhesive stamp was emitted in 1990, it acted of Marianne de Briat 2.30 francs red, resulting from notebook.

Advantages

Following the example of the envelope, become self-adhesive well before the stamp, the first advantage which spring is hygiene. Indeed more need to lick the back of a stamp which one did not know large thing about the hands which had handled it previously. The other favours obvious self-adhesive stamps, it is the speed and the facility of use of the latter, mainly near the companies, strong consuming stamps. Finally the technique put in work to create self-adhesive stamps, gives from now on to the creators stamps, any freedom as well in the forms as in the format of the stamp. Since 2008, many self-adhesive stamps were emitted by France, mainly bound for the companies.

How to take off self-adhesive stamps

For the collectors of stamps, the self-adhesive stamps, were a true headache. If the major part of the self-adhesive stamps can be detached, the adhesive remains present and returns the classification in sorters of stamps very complicated. There exists however a product which will largely help you in this operation, there acts of scarlet water!
CAUTION: This product is an extremely powerful stain-remover, takes care not to leave the children alone with this product and thinks of using it in a quite ventilated part.

  •     Pour scarlet water under cup
  •     Cut out around the stamp by leaving a margin of 1cm in order not to damage the teeth
  •     Plunge the stamp in scarlet water during one to two minutes
  •     Try to take off the stamp of its support without forcing. If it resists dip back the few seconds in the saucer.
  •     Once taken off, if there remains a residue of adhesive on the back of stamp, you can use the back of a knife in order to remove this surplus. (made with the teeth)
  •     Powder the back with the stamp of a little talc

Your stamp is ready to be arranged in your sorters! It should be noted that more and more of printing works of stamps, use an adhesive which dissolves in tepid water, allowing a simpler takeoff as for the gummed stamps. (See: How to take off a stamp of its support
