There does not exist any precise rule. Each collector is free to make according to its preferences and of its possibilities. Here however some proposals to give you ideas:
Sorting by country cottage: Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin, Bollinger, Duck-Duchêne, Vranke, Taittinger… To go further, you can also sort the whole alphabetically or simply by order preferably.
Sorting per year of exit of the capsule, or, in a broader way, by period. You can also classify the capsules according to the historical events which proceeded.
Sorting by set of themes: with this intention, you refer to the illustrations present on the capsules. The vine, animals, blazons of the country cottages, characters famous, angels, Olympic Games, etc
Sorting by color: if the visual one is important for you, the sorting by color is original!
Sorting by material of manufacturing: the Champagne capsule is generally a metal slice but certain capsules are manufactured out of Limoges porcelain, for example!
Sorting by technique of manufacturing: capsules painted with the hand, capsules manufactured by serigraphy (precision and solidity of the colors), or capsules manufactured by tampography (impression of the colors ones after the others).
Sorting by characteristics: capsules with strip, capsule with notches…
The list is not exhaustive: with you to choose the sorting which is appropriate to you best!
For sorting, to protect and arrange your collection, you will need an adapted material and especially designed for the placomusophilie! It is highly disadvised keeping your capsules of Champagne in a box, or a general way to pose them the ones on the others without protection: it is the best means of damaging them or of striping them. And they will lose value thus!
According to your needs and your preferences, you have the choice between:
Sorters or albums, practices to consult your collection constantly and to transport your champagne capsules. According to the size of your collection, with you to choose an album or a sorter with a more or less large capacity. However, you will have the possibility of adding layers or guides if your collection increases!
Windows, ideal if you want to expose and to emphasize certain Champagne capsules in particular. This kind of arrangement can be deposited or hung in any coin of the house.
Trunks with individual plates to preserve your capsules as well as possible. Favours it? To store and protect your collector's items in a reduced space.
