The bank of Thailand was created in 1942 and succeeded the National Thai Banking Bureau. The foundation of this central bank made following the Japanese invasion of Thailand in 1941. This structure is directed by a governor and its seat is located at Bangkok. Its main mission is to set up a stable financial environment in order to support a durable economic growth, the goal being to improve the standard of living of the population inhabitant of Thailand.

Various functions must be filled by the central bank of Thailand, starting with the promotion of monetary stability in the country. For that, this authority works out and implements the monetary policy. It also has the monopoly of emission of banknotes, the national currency being the baht. In addition, the central bank of Thailand provides banking services to the financial institutions: she indeed plays the part of lender in last spring and bank agent. This central bank provides also banking services to the government: she offers in particular facilities of loan to the Finance Minister and plays the part of agent for this same government. It is finally a question of making safe the systems of payment, of supervising the financial institutions and of determining rate of exchange.
